Jayne Spriggs
It is with great sadness that I have to report that on 23rd June 2009 Jayne Spriggs suddenly and very unexpectedly succumbed to cancer which had only recently been diagnosed. Her death came as a terrible shock to everyone who knew her and has left an awful void. |
|
| Jayne, her husband, Martin, and their two Jack Russells started in agility about 15 years ago at Norfolk Dog Training Society. Martin’s dog was more interested in sniffing around so he soon stopped bringing her and became helper and later a judge. Jayne progressed much better, quickly got addicted and soon won out of Starters with her first collie, Jody. Her next dog, Tasha, took them to Senior, followed by Jexie, a medium, who reached Grade 7 in record time. Together they qualified for several finals, including Burgess, Dogs in Need, and the Olympia semis, with Tasha reaching the Champ finals at Nottingham last year in only her second championship class. |
Important as those achievements are, I think Jayne will be remembered more for her deep commitment to the world of agility. For a long time she was the
Chair person of Norfolk Dog Training Society and latterly a committee member of Coltishall Agility Club, and she could always be found helping at shows with a smile and cheerful word for everyone, whilst Martin was busy judging or measuring. |

| As a trainer and club member, Jayne always had infinite patience, an endless supply of advice and suggestions, and constant encouragement and support for those of us who could only dream of equalling her handling skills. She was always there if we needed a shoulder to cry on and always the first to congratulate any achievements, sharing the good times and the bad in equal measure. Jayne was a truly unique and very special person to everyone who knew her and we will all miss her terribly now that she has joined her beloved and recently departed Jody at the Rainbow Bridge.
|
Our thoughts particularly go out to Martin and the rest of the family, and we can only hope that in some small way we are able to support them in the same way that Jayne supported all of us over the years.
The funeral service and cremation will take place at St Faith's Crematorium, Horsham St Faiths, Norwich on Monday, July 6th at 10.15 a.m. No flowers please, but donations welcomed for 'The Dogs Trust' may be sent c/o the Co-operative Funeral Service, 321c Aylsham Road, Norwich, NR3 2AB.

Welcome to Coltishall Agility Club
Coltishall Agility Club was originally part of the Holt Dog Training Club, but split away as a separate entity in 1992. As per the name we trained in the village of Coltishall in a dilapidated riding school, using a selection of hand made equipment. There were very few experienced handlers, so training was somewhat haphazard, unlike the structured training we have today. I can remember jumping over the jumps with my dog, scaling the A-frame and placing titbits every 6 inches along the dog walk!
Today The club trains indoors at Weston Longville Equestrian Centre every Wednesday evening in six separate classes from 7.00 – 10.30 p.m. We have around 35 members training a variety of breeds and crossbreeds and classes cater for everyone from absolute beginners right up to the very highest standard. Several members have qualified for Crufts and Olympia and one even represented Great Britain at the European Championships 2008. |
